Generation SJ Facelift (2016-Present)

Looking to buy a new Subaru Forester in Malaysia? Research Subaru Forester car prices, specs, safety, reviews & ratings at You can also compare the Subaru Forester against its rivals in Malaysia.

Two of the three variants of the Subaru Forester available are locally assembled – the 2.0i and 2.0i-P, both of which are naturally-aspirated. The third option is the 2.0 XT, which comes fully imported (CBU) from Japan, and is turbocharged.

The 2.0i and 2.0i-P is powered by a 2.0 litre NA four-cylinder DOHC petrol unit producing 150 PS at 6,200 rpm and 198 Nm at 4,200 rpm.

A handy feature here is PIN code access feature, allowing owners to access their Forester without a key fob.

Safety-wise, the Forester is well equipped across its entire line-up with seven airbags (dual front, sides and curtains, driver’s knee), Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Hill Start Assist, ring-shaped reinforcement frame and ABS (with EBD and BA) as standard.

Each purchase comes with a five-year/100,000 km warranty and a three-year/60,000 km free service package.

Ride & Handling
The Subaru Forester is a good all-rounder that feels just as home on the city streets as it does off-road. Featuring the familiar Subaru DNA of a boxer engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, the Forester also comes with an impressive safety package and a comfortable ride. However, it does command a slight premium over its rivals and isn't the best when it comes to handling.
  • Good off-road capabilities
  • Impressive safety package
  • Comfortable ride
  • Interior isn't the most premium
  • CVT not the most responsive
  • No around-view monitor
