This is on the 2013 first batch unit, not the slightly updated for 2014 unit with 6 airbags.

Build quality is surprisingly not too bad for a Hyundai, inside and out it feels well screwed together. The exterior is a love it or hate it thing, I kind of like the way it looks, though I prefer the turbo variant's bigger grille. The interior is small for C segment standards, the Elantra feels bigger, but for a compact car, it is not too bad actually. The boot is nice and deep, which is really nice and makes it practical.

The biggest conversation piece is the presence of the rear door for the back on one side of the car. For me, this is a brilliant idea actually, something only the Koreans would have thought about. It makes the rear seats so much practical and actually usable. Yes, the rear windows are a bit small, but it's not too bad.

Visibility is so-so only, but the presence of the reverse camera makes it not too difficult to park. Side views are OK, and the large front glass makes it easy to view out. Plenty of adjustment in the driver seat, so at no point did I feel uncomfortable.

Speaking of the touchscreen inside, finally Hyundai Malaysia decided to keep the original stock one instead of installing a locally developed unit. The biggest issue with the local units is that it is hopelessly unresponsive, and always gets muddled up, probably not enough CPU power. This one is stock from Korea so you are assured the real boys at Hyundai developed it. It is such a joy to use.

The car does look more expensive than it is, as usual, in Hyundai form. It's quiet, somewhat refined, generally OK to drive. As a day to day driver it is fine. With the 6 speed auto it shifts smoothly and doesn't jerk about. Also is very efficient for its size since the 6th gear helps on the highway when cruising.

I am quite happy that Hyundai decided to not make the car too swoopy and curvy like the Sonata on the inside. Kit count is generally good, and with the 2014, it gets so much nicer since it comes with 6 airbags now, making it one of the safest cars you could by at the price.
For one, it was the name, Veloster. Veloster was supposed to be a Velocity Roadster. They got the roadster part right, but not the Velocity part, sadly. Unfortunately the car is too heavy for the tiny 1.6 engine. In the city it is OK, but getting up to speeds takes a bit of time, and patience. The sound made by the 1.6 Gamma engine is not inspiring in any way (it is no VTEC engine) and feels more like a coffee grinder. It was such a pity Hyundai took too long to bring in the Turbo variant in, cause that would have fixed all of the issues.

Dynamics is so-so in the regular 1.6 variant, it doesn't roll much, but the steering has not much feel to it. It doesn't feel as nice as say a Renault Clio RS, but because of the price difference I will let that one pass.

Hyundai's aftersales is slow and disappointing however, with very very slow service, to long wait times till parts arrive. Also technicians tend to be not sure of what to do - not a good thing.
To improve
Probably a slight retune of the EPS in the facelift would be nice. The Turbo is much needed to fulfil the sporting credentials of this car. Also, please improve the aftersales. It's a decent car, but with aftersales like this, I am not too sure if I would keep buying Hyundais.
Yes, I would recommend this car
