First off, for a successor of the YF Sonata, I must say I was highly impressed with the LF. It looks nice and grown up, very mature and clean, with just the right amount of flair. Pictures don't do the car justice especially the rear with the light tubes. I personally feel this car really stands out in light colours like whites and silvers, it really brings the design up.
Space is amazing in this car. Seriously impressive space inside, with loads of space in the rear. Even with a six footer in the front, another six footer can sit behind, with space to spare. That is impressive!
Also more importantly, at idle, this car is pretty much silent. Barely any noise from the engine and even at traffic lights, it was nice and quiet. The engine is generally not too noisy under normal acceleration.
Quality is not bad, it is well assembled which is an improvement over the previous car. However the materials still don't feel very nice.
Brakes are absolutely disappointing. Considering the past of Hyundai and Kia, one would have thought they would improve the brakes. I found it very unresponsive, and under panic braking, I noticed how the car would lock up before the ABS could kick in, it is for a split second but still... The car felt nervous too under heavy braking.
Engine is not very smooth I would say at higher revs. More apparent is the lack of power. Seriously for the weight, I think a 2.4 would have been better.
Ride and handling too could be improved. It was neither as good to drive as a VW Passat or Ford Mondeo, nor was it comfortable like a Peugeot 508. It's an A for effort, but a B- for execution.
Materials too while were robust, could be better, specifically the trim (the carbon fibre look a like is not nice, aluminium would be better). The seats too felt cheap cause of the leather used. The Santa Fe's leather felt really nice for the price compared to this. Oh and the Android local GPS thing - it's OK, but still has some lag, I'd prefer the original BlueLink from Korea, but it is miles ahead of the YF one.
To improve
Improve the brakes and the materials used.
Probably retune the suspension, for a more plush ride. With a better engine I think it is the perfect company car tbh.
