T5 AWD R-Design (2018)
Bought used, Owned for 1 Year
Fuel Economy: 10.0 km/litre (10.0 L/100 km), RON97, Mileage: 2,000 km/month
1. Built like a tank, but not a difficult car to maneuver in the city traffic.
2. Acceleration is not sluggish and powers you out of trouble with ease
3. The interior tells others that you're a minimalist and that you've purchased the XC40 not to show to the world that you've made it. No disco lights is a major plus point.
4. The boot space is spacious enough and well designed with folding floors. It is also large enough for hiking and camping trips for two.
5. AWD hence you can park on softer grounds without worrying that you need a tow truck after the rain.
6. Handling for an SUV is great, navigating the bends with confidence.
7. Safety features above all. It's a Volvo. You get all the safety features that's considered bare minimum, simply because the company that has built it, believes in it. They don't cheap out on safety features.
8. The exterior design looks rugged, but sleek enough to be parked in a corporate building. Its clean and simple design is timeless.
9. Interior space is cozy, but spacious enough. Anyway, I don't agree that car space should be a comparison for passenger cars. It's like comparing interior plushness in 12 wheeler trucks.
10. The Polestar optimisation is a great-to-have. It pushes the torque output to 400nm (w/o Polestar: 350nm).
11. Power seats on driver and front passenger seats. And door lock/unlock button on both front doors.
12. It's a Volvo, one of the most underappreciated cars in Malaysia. With similar class SUVs with less features selling at +20 to +30% of the XC40's price, I don't see why not the XC40.
13. In reference to Item 12, you can park anywhere and not be worried that someone would steal your car or parts of your car. So, for someone who does outdoor activitites, it's just perfect.
1. My version is the last non-hybrid 4 cylinders T5 engine. They dropped the R-design hence, no paddle shifters. The manual shift goes left and right on the little gear knob, which is rather annoying.
2. The tyre roars are quite apparent, especially if you're using P Zeros.
3. Rear seats can be a little too straight for some. I find it alright, but maybe because I sit up straight in most situations.
To Improve
1. Auto headlamp response is a little slow at times when you get into a tunnel. It doesn't affect drivability or performance of the car, but it's quite apparent that I can't help to notice it.
2. Piano black center console. Get ready for scratches and fingerprints.
3. Drive mode selection resets to Comfort every time you turn off the car. I wish that it could be fixed at the last selected mode.
Yes, I would recommend this car
