Mazda 2 Hatchback DJ (2015-Present)

The new Mazda 2 is striking to look at and has an interior that feels more expensive than it has any right to be, with an impressive amount of kit on offer. It handles nicely too, but the small cabin, firm ride and slightly anaemic 1.5 litre SkyActiv-G engine does take the shine off things.

  • High kit count, including lots of feel-good toys

Against
  • Cramped rear accomodation, small boot
  • Ride can be a little harsh at speed
  • 1.5 litre petrol engine struggles under high loads

1.5 Hatchback with LED Lamp (2017)
Bought used, Owned for 4 Years
Fuel Economy: 14.0 km/litre (7.1 L/100 km), RON95, Mileage: 1,000 km/month
    - The jinba-ittai philosophy live up to it's name. The car brings a smile to your face with it's nimble and zippy handling.
    - Engine feels lively and willing to rev, engine note sounds the best in it's class.
    - Frugal fuel consumption with constant speed.
    - Steering is light and direct, feedback is good.
    - 6 speed gearbox with paddle shifters. The combination of both the Skyactiv engine and gearbox provides excellent drivability in all conditions and is effortless going uphill.
    - Cute looking yet muscular kodo body design, timeless design despite being around since 2016.
    - Minimalist and premium interior still feels relevant to date, with high-quality materials on the dash, door, and the matte chrome finishing feels nice to touch and see.
    - Aircond has wide range of fan setting and is very cooling.
    - MZD command further enhance the experience when toggling the infotainment system.
    - Auto-levelling LED projector headlamps looks fierce while provides excellent illumination while not glaring as oppose to other reflector-LED headlamp.
    - Skyactiv chassis, one of the Japanese carmaker that is closer to a Continental in terms of body rigidity at that time.
    - Wheelbase of 2,570mm provides sufficient legroom
    - Despite it's measurements of 4,060 mm x 1,695 mm x 1,470 mm(L x W x H), it is one of the longest hatchback in the B-segment hatch, however it does not look the part due to it's rounded and sculpted body
    - The pre-facelift model have very intrusive road noise, factory fitted eco-tyres further worsen the NVH
    - Short front and rear seat, tight rear legroom due to the long nose design
    - Lack in amount of airbags, only 2 in our local spec
    - Absence of armrest
    - Very thin factory rims (5.5j) which lacks stability on high speed cruise
    - Parts reliability seems to be an issue with the suspension and bushing easily worn out
To improve
- NVH needs to be improved however they eventually did it with each of the Mazda2 facelifted model - Cruise control/MRCC fitted in other market could be added to ease long distance driving - Longer seat base, revise the center console like the facelifted CX-3 to include armrest - Rear LED taillamp could provide better visibility - Wider rims and tyres to help high speed stability - Gearbox could be tuned smoother at low speed
Yes, I would recommend this car
